In 1964, a middle school social studies teacher from Chicago discovered
the incredible experience of traveling to Washington, D.C. with
his students. He was so encouraged by the powerful effects travel
had on his students, he left teaching in 1967 to create Lakeland
Tours - an educational student travel organization. Through his
vision, the company has become the industry leader in student travel.
Since then, the company has worked with thousands
of teachers and schools from all 50 states and several foreign countries.
In the late 90s, Lakeland Tours merged five of the country's leading
student travel companies: American Student Travel, Educational Field
Studies, Heritage Festivals, Bowl Games of America, and Wider Horizons.
Lakeland brought all of its acquired companies together under a
single brand, WorldStrides. The company's new tagline became "DISCOVER
YOUR WORLD," which incorporated the concepts of learning through
discovery and traveling the world.
As many as 200,000 students in a given
year travel with WorldStrides to destinations throughout the
United States and the world. WorldStrides is the only company
of its kind to be a supplemental education provider.
