Stand Up for Change in Washington, D.C.
Inspire your students to become active citizens in their community, country, and world while they stand atop the steps of the Lincoln Memorial or walk the historic halls of the United States Capitol. All of this is possible with the new program, Stand Up for Change.

This unique 5-day, 4-night program in Washington, D.C., is the result of an innovative collaboration between Facing History and Ourselves and WorldStrides, the nation’s premier travel study school. The program is an opportunity to extend Facing History’s curriculum beyond classroom walls. Each day’s itinerary focuses on a specific theme highlighting participation and democracy with guided tours and hands-on learning experiences at amazing sites including, the National Museum of American History, the United States Capitol, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Experience the Choosing to Participate Exhibition
Your students will experience four powerful stories of individuals facing prejudice at Facing History and Ourselves’ interactive multimedia exhibition, Choosing to Participate. The exhibit will be at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. from January through June 2011. On the Stand Up for Change program, students will meet upstanders in the Washington, D.C. area committed to making a difference. In the heart of Washington, D.C., the setting for the era’s most significant civil rights marches, students will be inspired to consider the societal impact of their individual choices and choose compassion and tolerance as catalysts for change.
