Science Florida

Dive In: Life in the Field

Florida is one of the world’s most prominent destinations for the study of science. On a Dive In program to Florida, your child experiences science outside of the classroom like never before. Students learn how elements of biology, chemistry, and physics work together in developing and maintaining marine environments as they interact with Florida’s rivers, ocean waters, coral reefs, and animals.

Caladesi Island: Students travel by ferry to one of the few completely natural islands on Florida’s Gulf Coast.  They use technology to measure waves, assess the chemical makeup of ocean water, and measure ocean floor movement as they build an ocean profile for the area.

Crystal River: Students snorkel with manatees and learn about the history and conservation of these gentle, endangered creatures.

Rainbow River: As they snorkel in clear fresh water, students will see diverse wildlife as well as prehistoric sharks’ teeth, which are being released as the underground limestone caverns erode.

Mote Marine Laboratory: Scientists at this world-leading shark research center share groundbreaking discoveries and research as students explore the working laboratory and learn about careers in marine science.

Lido Beach: This beautiful Gulf Coast beach is an excellent location for relaxing and learning.

Everglades National Park: Students have the chance to experience the beauty of Floridian wildlife in its natural habitat while learning about the significance of this one-of-a-kind ecosystem.

Garden Cove Kayak Trip: Students kayak through four different habitats, including mangrove tunnels and coastal areas.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park: Students have the option of performing an oceanography lab on the beach at this park before snorkeling in the vibrant, colorful reefs nearby.

Miami Seaquarium: Students swim with dolphins at this state-of-the-art facility.
