Your Stories: Inspiring Student Travel

One of the most rewarding moments for the WorldStrides team is hearing from our teachers and students after they return from a program. We often encounter inspiring stories that illustrate how one teacher’s decision to travel can change the life and perspective of every student on the trip.

Your Stories: Inspiring Student Travel is a small collection of personal accounts submitted by teachers, WorldStrides Course Leaders, parents, and students that reflect the most powerful and touching moments from our nearly 45-year history. From a young violinist who sees Carnegie Hall for the first time, to a group of students who have the opportunity to lay a wreath at Arlington National Ceremony; these stories show how student travel brings textbook lessons to life, and promotes maturity and self-reflection.

We believe that you too will be inspired by these stories, and we encourage you to share your own. If you have participated in a WorldStrides DiscoverNow! program as a teacher or student, we would love to hear about your unique experiences! I must say that over my 31 years of bringing kids to Washington, D.C., many wonderful and often funny stories have been created. In the early 1990s, our school was scheduled for a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The four students who were to participate in the ceremony had been selected by their fellow students. (read more)
